We like to do things that meet needs and make life feel a bit better, especially for those who don’t always have an easy time of it. We might not be able to solve all people’s problems, but with God’s help we try to lighten the load, partly by what we do for people and partly just because we show that we care. The Bible has a lot to say about doing good to people, and we base our motivation on verses like these: Matthew 22:39 says we should love our neighbour as ourselves 1 John 4:19 reminds us that God’s love is so amazing that it makes us want to share it Ephesians 5:16 (first bit) tells us to use every chance we have for doing good.
Sometimes a small act of kindness can make someone’s whole week, and the fact that that it’s mostly free and with no strings attached helps!
As Christians we want to share with others the love God has shown us, and we firmly believe its as much about who we are and what we do as about what we say. CS Lewis said ‘Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important. We think its of infinite importance and hope to demonstrate this through our actions. What’s so great is that, as we get involved doing these activities we have a chance to get to know some wonderful people that we wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to meet, hopefully make a difference to their lives and build relationships with people who become friends that we can do life with.
We are all part of God’s church in Newport, and we meet in various places for worship on Sunday mornings, each with its own unique ‘flavour’. If you’d like to try out one of the churches, click on the links button above. |
